Getting to know my couples is what one of the most rewarding parts of my job, but so is shooting the weddings of friends too. I’ve known Karen and Joe for many years so I was really pleased when they asked me be their wedding photographer at Childerley Hall.
Childerley is a fantastic venue, it’s so close to Cambridge yet it is surrounded by wonderful countryside and weddings taken place in an magnificent Victorian barn. Apparently it’s one of the longest in Europe, and this makes it perfect for weddings – you can have your ceremony, wedding breakfast and dance floor all set up in one go, no changing of tables. Definitely a place I’d recommend.
I started the day with the bridal party, who were at a nearby hotel, getting ready. Often this can be a nervous time but everyone was super chilled because Karen had planned everything out so well. I got some really natural and fun shots of the bridal prep, before heading off to Childerley to catch up with the boys.
After spending some time with the groom and his party I headed into the barn to capture some shots before the guests arrived. It’s décor was so impressive with lots of lighting.
I also met up with Rebecca from White Rose Ceremonies, who was officiating on the day. What’s really helpful if I’m shooting your wedding is for me to chat to any planners or wedding celebrants before the ceremony. Rebecca talking me through the running order really helped me plan what kind of photographs to take and when.
The ceremony was great, especially as I was seeing my friends getting married. I gathered the guests outside for some group shots with the newlyweds afterwards, and then Karen and Joe for couple shots. We were forecast a lot of rain on the day, but it didn’t start coming down until after the couple shots so we were very lucky!
Afterwards they headed back into the barn and I worked my way around the room to capture photos of the guests at the wedding breakfast. The food was by Puddini at the Deli and was absolutely delicious. Karen and Joe made their wedding a real local affair; they also had drinks by Banquet Inn Bars plus music by Indietones.
As night fell and the guests partied I took the new Mr and Mrs into a quiet corner to capture some night shots. The barn was lit up so beautifully which made up for not being able to go outside.
Capturing these night shots was the perfect end to a great day with Karen and Joe. It doesn’t get much better than this!
