Back in July I made my first trip to the Swynford Manor wedding venue, for Liz and Luke’s country house wedding. This venue in Suffolk was so special that the couple travelled all the way from Leicester to get married here.
When I first met Liz and Luke I got a feel for their personalities straight away, Liz is full of energy and excitement and Luke is the calm one. Meeting with them first helped me capture the best photos for their day; I knew exactly what to look out for on the day.
On the morning of the wedding I started as I often do, photographing the bridal party and the grooms and groomsmen getting ready. Both bride and groom were getting ready at Swynford Manor, so I was able to divide my time evenly between both of them, to capture the anticipation of the day.
I started with the boys, who were relatively calm, perhaps a little nervous, getting ready over a relaxed breakfast. The bridal suite, by contrast, was a hubbub of activity – with the girls drinking champagne, having their hair and make up done and helping the bride get ready.
Liz and Luke chose to have the wedding ceremony outside, and the weather was so good to them. The summery wedding ceremony was relaxed and romantic, and the setting, surrounded by trees, made for incredible photos. The venue is spectacular, lots of old world glamour as well as rural character too. It quickly became one of my favourite venues to photograph – there’s so much to take in, the architecture, the grounds and the décor.
After the ceremony the guests had drinks and games on the terrace before the reception in the nearby light-filled Garden Room. After some pretty raucous speeches and a delicious lunch, it was time to party!
Liz and Luke are a couple who don’t take themselves too seriously. Their first dance was so fun and it wasn’t long before the rest of the guests joined them on the dance floor! For this part of the day I concentrated on getting candid shots of everyone letting their hair down, before some night shots of the couple.
As night fell I took the newlyweds outside for some couple portraits in the grounds. The music was still in earshot, so they decided to do a little dancing, which created this dramatic and romantic photo.
Liz and Luke’s day was a great experience, full of romance and fun at a venue with bags of charm. It was such a pleasure to photograph their wedding, and I wish them all the best for the future.
